Mijas Costa - Costa del Sol
Mijas Costa is situated between Marbella and Fuengirola in the heart of Spain’s Costa del Sol. Like all large Spanish towns Mijas Costa is split into various sections: El Chaparral, La Cala, El Combo, and Calahonda with its two major urbanizations; Riviera del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda.
As the name suggests, Mijas Costa runs from the beach right up to Mijas Pueblo in the mountains. The beaches at Mijas Costa are clean, sandy and have many opportunities for lovers of water sports. La Cala Beach has been awarded a “Blue Flag” and is one of the best beaches of the Costa del Sol. Holiday Makers and locals can enjoy jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing or just swimming in the clear blue Mediterranean Sea.
Although Mijas Costa is a Spanish town, there are so many expats living here, English is on par with Spanish as the prime language. Mijas Costa is known for its karaoke, second hand shops, Indian restaurants, British doctors, British dentists, imported foods and a great range of British and Irish pubs.
Fiestas in Mijas Costa
The Patron Saint of Mijas is San Anton and in January Mijas Costa holds a colourful festival with carriages and carts overflowing with flowers and food to be carried to the hermitage. Streets are lined with stalls selling locally made bread and arts and crafts for which the area is famous.
Mijas Carnival
Throughout the last two weeks of September Mijas Costa starts to party at the Mijas Carnival - known locally as the Ferial. Village streets are closed, food and drink is served, street musicians play and the fun fair goes into full swing.
Golf in Mijas Costa
Mijas Costa has 4 Golf Courses; El Chaparral Golf course at La Cala De Mijas,
La Cala golf, Santana Golf, and Mijas Golf Course which boasts two 18 holes courses. Los Lagos is a mainly flat course with wide fairways and fast small greens, suitable for the more demanding players.
Horse Racing in Mijas Costa
Horse racing is a huge added attraction to the Costa del Sol's favourite holiday destination. The Hipodromo Costa del Sol has two tracks, with floodlighting for night racing, and a grandstand accommodating 5000 spectators, in addition we have trackside seating for a further 5000.
The prize money is the highest in Spain and the season lasts throughout the winter months when most other tracks are closed. Our racing season is October to May.
The Hipodromo is only twenty minutes from Malaga International Airport and within easy reach of beaches, hotels and golf courses of Mijas and La Cala.
