To under an ITV either contact your local garage who can book the appointment or book directly with your local ITV Station. You can risk going to the ITV Station unannounced, however bookings take priority and you will be seen between appointments, but be aware that you may have a long wait or be turned away and told to come again another day.
The inspection assures that all vehicles are road worthy, have functioning lights, indicators, horn and seat belts. Emissions are checked, as are other features that effect public safety such as brakes and hazard lights.
When you arrive at the ITV Testing Centre you must go into the office taking your car registration and ITV document, pay the fee in cash (no credit cards accepted) and go back and wait in your vehicle. Price for ITV is €32,05* for a standard petrol car and €36,44* if it is diesel.
If you have imported your car, the first ITV will be more in depth. The cost for a first ITV is €110,06* and €114,61* if it is diesel.
If your car has been repaired after a major accident, you may need to submit this for a special ITV. The cost for a petrol car is €145,58* and diesel €149,98*
Inspections include checking your wheel alignment, lights, brakes, steering, a pit inspection (A tester will look under your car for any faults), tyres, emmissions and an interior inspection of the car (which includes checking your doors, windows, seat belts etc.
The Technical Inspection Report describes the results of the inspection.
- INSPECCIÓN FAVORABLE: There was no defects found
- INSPECCIÓN FAVORABLE CON DEFECTOS LEVES: The defects are found mild, and must be corrected for the next inspection of the vehicle.
- INSPECCIÓN DESFAVORABLE: The inspection has found serious defects. The vehicle must be repaired and returned for another inspection.
- INSPECCIÓN NEGATIVA: The faults found are so serious that the vehicle must be removed and taken to a garage by a tow truck.
When your vehicle passes the test you will be given a sticker to place on your windscreen and the ITV documentation will be returned to you with the date of the next inspection noted on the document.
If your car does not pass the test you will have a set period of time to rectify the faults and bring the car back before having to pay for the test again.
Inspection points tend to be located near urban centres and there are over fifty ITV inspection points in Andalusia. The ITV stations are run by different companies under contract with the regional government.
