Vorarlberg is the westernmost state in Austria bordering Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Vorarlberg is also distinct in that it is the only province in Austria that does not speak an Austro-Bavarian, but rather an Alemannic dialect; it therefore culturally has much more in common with its Alemannic-speaking neighbors Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Swabia than with Bavaria and the rest of Austria.

Voralberg has many famous skiing regions (Arlberg, Montafon, Bregenzer Wald) and ski resorts (Lech, Zürs, Schruns, Warth, Damüls, Brand and many more). Damüls is also famous as the municipality with the most annual snowfall worldwide (on average 9.30 meters).

Bludenz is surrounded by mountains and lies at the meeting point of five different valleys. Bludenz is a popular hiking and mountain-biking resort in the summer months. Bludenz lies on the way to many skiing resorts not far away.

Brand is a tourist resort in Western Austria about 5km north of the Swiss border and 8km east of Leichtenstein. Winter sports in Brand include both downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, winter hiking, skitouring, icefall climbing, skating, curling, horse riding, archery and indoor tennis. Summer activities include hiking, climbing, mountain biking, golf, tennis, horse riding, fly fishing, canyoning, archery, beach volleyball and soccer.

Bregenz is located on the eastern shores of Lake Constance (the 3rd largest freshwater lake in Central Europe). The annual summer music festival Bregenzer Festspiele is a world-famous festival which takes place on and around a stage on Lake Constance, where a different opera is performed every second year.

Damüls holds the world record of the municipality with the most annual snowfall - the average is 9.30 meters per year.

Riezlern is well known for as a centre for Alpine Skiing.
