Hotels in Epirus - Western Macedonia, Greece

The region of Epirus as a whole is rugged and mountainous. The winds from the Ionian Sea offer the region more rainfall than any other part of Greece.

The region of West Macedonia is situated in north-western Greece, bordering with the regions of Central Macedonia (east), Thessaly (south), Epirus (west), and bounded to the north at the international borders of Greece with the Republic of Macedonia (Bitola region) and Albania (Korçë region). The last years the region is being developed in tourism mainly on winter. It is the only Greek region without sea coast, but on the other side there are a lot of lakes, mountains, picturesque villages and two big ski centers in Florina (Vigla) and Grevena (Vasilitsa) and one other under construction in Kozani (Velvendos).

Florina is a town and municipality in mountainous northwestern Macedonia, Greece. Its motto is, 'Where Greece begins'. Winters bring heavy snow and long periods of temperature below freezing point. During the hot summer months it becomes a busy market town.

Ioannina, often called Jannena within Greece, is the largest city of Epirus, north-western Greece, with a population of 70,203 (in 2001). It lies at an elevation of approximately 500 meters above sea level, on the western shore of lake Pamvotis. Ioannina has a Mediterranean climate tempered by its inland location and elevation. Summers are typically hot and dry, while winters are wet and colder than on the coast. Ioannina is the wettest city in Greece. One of the most notable attractions of Ioannina is the islet on Lake Pamvotis. Tourists can visit the monastery of Agios Panteleimon which has been converted into a museum containing information and paintings, as well as re-creations of Ali Pasha's lounging and living quarters. The region of Ioannina is well known for the production of feta cheese. The area is also famous for its spring water Zagori, which is sold over much of Greece.

Konitsa is a town in Epirus, Greece, near the Albanian border. It has an amphi-theatre shaped on a mountain slope of the Pindos mountain range, overlooking the valley where the river Aoos meets the river Voidomatis. It is a good starting point for tourists who want to explore the Pindos mountains, or who want to go rafting in the river Aoos or parapenting.

Kozani is located in the western part of Macedonia, in the northern part of the Aliakmonas river valley. The climate of the area is continental with cold and dry winters, and hot summers.

Metsovo is a town in Epirus on the mountains of Pindus in northern Greece, between Ioannina to the north and Meteora to the south. Metsovo is famous for its local cheeses (Metsovone and Metsovela) and winemaking industries. Metsovo is also a popular winter vacation destination and a ski resort.
