Carinthia is the southernmost Austrian state; situated within the Eastern Alps it is chiefly noted for its mountains and lakes. Carinthia's lakes including Wörther See, Millstätter See, Ossiacher See and Faaker See are a major tourist attraction.

Carinthia has a continental climate, with hot and moderately wet summers and long harsh winters. The average amount of sunshine hours is the highest in Austria. In autumn and winter temperature inversion often dominates the climate, characterized by air stillness, a dense fog covering the frosty valleys.

Carinthia features numerous monasteries and churches such as the Romanesque Gurk Cathedral or Maria Saal in the Zollfeld plain, the abbeys of St Paul's, Ossiach, Millstatt and Viktring as well as castles and palaces like large-scale Hochosterwitz, Griffen or Porcia.

The unique combination of 200 lakes and impressive mountain landscape together with more than 2000 hours of sunshine each year make Austria´s southernmost province to a limitless holiday region.

Bad Kleinkirchheim is a renowned spa and ski resort offering skiable slopes of 185 km, as well as 16 km of tracks for cross-country skiing.
