The climate of the Aosta Valley is severe, especially when compared with other places in the Western Alps. This is probably due to the mountains blocking the mild winds from the Atlantic Ocean. Places with the same altitude in France or western Switzerland are not as cold as the Aosta Valley.
The Valley is an outdoor adventure lovers dream in the summer months it offers a wide range of climbing and hiking options above the valley floor. In the winter the valley is at the heart of the Italian skiing experience with such famous areas as Courmayer located here.
A great year-round activity in Valle d'Aosta is a visit to the Thermes de Pre Sant-Didier. Incredibly relaxing in a beautiful setting overlooking Monte Bianco.
