Samos is a Greek island in the North Aegean sea, south of Chios, north of Patmos and the Dodecanese, and off the Ionian coast of Turkey.
According to mythology Samos was the birthplace of the goddess Hera, wife of Zeus and queen of the gods. Samos is also the birthplace of many philosophers and mathematicians such as Epikouros, Aristarches and Pythagoras.
Samos has something for everyone, from big beach hotels to rustic hill villages. It also has miles of sand, towering mountains, stunning scenery, attractive coves and lush woods.
Inland are abundant springs and two magnificent mountain ranges encircled by gentle rolling hills.
Kokkari, A favourite with windsurfers, Kokkari has a wonderful pebbled beach which lies in front of the resort itself. Lined with tavernas and bars this is a popular resort with a good number of hotels and apartments.
Samos is a very popular holiday destination and you should be able to find package holidays from most European countries. If you prefer to travel independently you will find that Samos is well connected to nearby islands or mainland Greece via ferry and there are daily flights to the island.
