Banks

Banks throughout Spain generally open between 8.30am to 2.00pm Mondays to Fridays with the exception of bank holidays.

Some Spanish banks will open on Saturday mornings from 9am to 1pm during the months of October to April on the Coast.

Spanish savings banks open from 8.30am to 2.30pm Mondays to Fridays only.

Some banks will have a particular day and times when certain bills such as rates can be paid. You will need to check with your branch.

Some Spanish banks will have Oficinas Internacionales; special offices in the bank where staff can speak different languages and help foreigners with all their banking needs. Flags of the countries will be prominent on the entrance to the bank.

If you spend a long time away from Spain and have a Spanish bank account, choose a bank with a good online banking system. This facility will allow you to pay your community charges, local rates and your Spanish yearly property tax direct. If you do not speak Spanish, check to see that they have an English version on their website.

To open a Bank Account in Spain you will need open one account if you are a resident in Spain or a different account if you do not reside in Spain. The reason for the different accounts is due to different tax obligations for residents and non residents.

If you reside in Spain, take your Spanish residency permit with you to the bank. If you are a non resident you will need your passport and your NIE number (if you have one).

You may have yearly fees to pay to keep your account running.
