Alhaurin de la Torre is split into many urbanisations, comprising of large grand villas, country fincas, townhouses to apartments. Each section of Alhaurin de la Torre has its own sub communities where residents can enjoy features such as communal swimming pools and tennis courts to small ferias where the local community get together and have fun.
Pinos de Alhaurin is one of the largest urbanisations in Europe and is situated just outside the town. Although there are no supermarkets, schools, or shops, it is very popular due to the large plots of land and grand villas which stand on each. There is a bus service which travels around the private estate taking commuters into town.
On the Malaga side of town there are numerous urbanisations which are much sort after due to the excellent amenities that service the residents. Urbanisations such as Los Manantiales, Cortijos del Sol, Retamar, El Lagar, and others.
Recreational Amenities in Alhaurin de la Torre
Alhaurin de la Torre has many well maintained parks and gardens which are extremely popular on summer evenings where people of all ages gather to talk and enjoy the fabulous weather here in Andalucia.
For the more active, there are lots of basketball courts where locals practise their skills; a newly built skateboard park which is proving very popular for youngsters, an area for Petanque and a special outdoor gymnasium built primarily for the elderly. This feature was erected last year and proved so popular that there is a queue of pensioners waiting to use the equipment.
Alhaurin de la Torre has its own Golf course which is extremely popular all year round. Lauro golf is situated between Alhaurin de la Torre and Alhaurin el Grande. Alhaurin Football Stadium has had a major facelift and stands erected only 2 years ago. The Lauro Football Club comprises of senior and junior football teams which is a favorite amoungst the residents of Alhaurin de la Torre.
Other sports and recreational activities include a Paddle Tennis Court, Tennis Club, Clay Pidgeon Shooting, Kickboxing, and an arts centre where you can learn wood carving, painting, and languages.
Fiestas in Alhaurin de la Torre
Like any Spanish town, Alhaurin de la Torre loves its fiestas. The month of January is particularly good for festivals in Alhaurín de la Torre. On January 5th, the " Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos" (Procession of the Three Kings) takes place, with the town turning out to see floats which throw enormous amounts of boiled sweets and toys into the crowd. After the procession, excited children gather to meet the 3 kings and receive presents.
On January 20th Alhaurin de la Torre has a festival in honour of San Sebastián (one of the towns 2 patron saints). The celebrations go on for three days, with cultural and folkloric activities taking place, in which the entire town takes part.
Easter hosts traditional Spanish processions where the cross is carried to the beat of the towns band of drummers. Other days include a weekend of free tapas and beer, which the town hall provides as a "thank you" to the residents of Alhaurin de la Torre.
The Festival of San Juan (Other patron saint) brings Alhaurin de la Torre to life. During the week of 24th June, the town host street parties, carnivals, Flamenco Shows and big named singers from Spain. The Feria starts on the Thursday evening with a Fireworks display and residents party until dawn every night until midnight on the following Monday. Many businesses in Alhaurin de la Torre shut down during period so their staff can enjoy the festivities every night.
